Lenten Devotionals

The devotions are based on the designated Psalmody for the day or week. The Psalms thematically allow us to focus on areas where we have fallen short of God's glory and God's plan, and to reflect on ways for heart-felt renewal for the future.

The first seven devotions will form the basis for an adaptation of the Good Friday Reproaches.

These materials are available here for reproduction, for use in bulletin inserts or to be handed out, and for liturgical use as deemed appropriate. They will be available well in advance of the week of observance. If you have not yet chosen a Lenten thematic in your parish, these Psalms are powerful in pointing to the Cross of Christ as our only hope.

Here are the eight Psalms and themes -

Ash Wednesday: Psalm 51:17
A Broken Heart is not Despised

Lent I: Psalm 25:7
Do Not Remember the Sins of My Youth

Lent II: Psalm 22:30-31
Posterity Will Hear of Him - Or Will It?

Lent III: Psalm 19
Cleanse Us From Secret Faults

Lent IV: Psalm 107
The Nations Have Come to Us for Healing. Have They Found It?

Lent V: Psalm 51:4
Against You and You Alone Have We Sinned

Passion Sunday: Psalm 31
The Whispering of Many - The Scourge of Infighting

Easter: Psalm 118
