Jubilee Kickoff

On September 22, 2005 our Jubilee year of celebrations kicked off with the Annual Witness in the Public Square Luncheon held at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan raising over $95,000 for Atlantic District Missions. Over two-hundred people turned out from all over the Atlantic District to pay tribute to three saints on earth who have brought their witness to the public square:

  • Alma Kern, author and servant leader in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for decades, lifelong companion of missionary pastor Herb;
  • John Mesloh, Treasurer of the Atlantic District, former comptroller of Pfizer International, member and chairman of boards of directors of many institutions of health and healing;
  • Edwin Meese III, former Attorney General, United States of America; fellow at the Heritage Foundation, Lutheran Christian whose son Col. Michael has served our District Board and the cause of the Gospel at Lutheran Ministries at West Point

The 2005 honorees holding their awards: John Mesloh (Resurrection, Garden City), Alma Kern (Calvary, E. Meadow) and Ed Meese (Washington DC)
